Visas that allow you to start a business or invest in New Zealand

Investor 2 Resident Visa

Experienced business people who have a minimum of NZD $3 million in available funds or assets can apply for New Zealand residence. Before you can apply, we’ll first need you to send us an Expression of Interest telling us about your business experience and investment. If your Expression of Interest is successful we’ll invite you and your partner and dependent children to apply for New Zealand residence.

Criteria you must meet

  • You must submit an expression of interest (EOI). You’ll need to be able to claim at least 20 points in your EOI using our Investor 2 points system.

  • You must have at least NZ $3 million to invest in New Zealand over a 4 year period.

  • You must have at least 3 years’ business experience.

Investor 1 Resident Visa

If you have NZ $10 million to invest in New Zealand over a 3-year period, you can apply for New Zealand residence. If you’re granted residence you can come to New Zealand with your family and enjoy our unique lifestyle.

Criteria you must meet

  • You must keep NZ $10 million invested in New Zealand for 3 years.

  • You must spend 44 days in each of the last 2 of the 3 years in New Zealand.

Parent Retirement Resident Visa

We have a range of visas that allow you to run your own business, or to live and invest in New Zealand if you have an adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident, and you want to live in New Zealand permanently. You’ll need an annual income of NZ $60,000 plus $1 million to invest for 4 years, and another NZ $500,000 to live on.

Criteria you must meet

  • You must have an adult child who is a New Zealand citizen or resident, and no dependent children.

  • You must have NZ $1 million or more to invest in New Zealand for 4 years, and another NZ $500,000 or more on top of your investment funds.

  • You must have an annual income of NZ $60,000 or more.

 

 

Temporary Retirement Visitor Visa

This visa is for you if you’re 66 years or over and want to invest and stay in New Zealand for 2 years.

Criteria you must meet

  • You must have NZ $750,000 or more to invest in New Zealand for 2 years, and another NZ $500,000 to live on, plus an annual income of NZ $60,000 or more.

  • If we approve your application in principle, you must transfer your investment funds to New Zealand with 3 months.

  • You must have acceptable travel and/or health insurance for the length of your stay.

Entrepreneur Resident Visa

This visa is for you if you’re already in New Zealand on an Entrepreneur Work Visa or another visa that allows self-employment, and you want to live in New Zealand on a permanent basis. If you’re granted this visa, you’ll be able to continue operating your business in New Zealand and stay here indefinitely.

Criteria you must meet

  • You must have been self-employed for at least 6 months.

  • If you’re applying after less than 2 years of being self-employed, you’ll need to have invested capital of at least NZ $500,000 and have created 3 new jobs in New Zealand.

Criteria

  1. You must demonstrate relevant business experience, as defined under the regulations. In essence, you must have previously managed or operated a qualified business for at least two out of five years preceding your application.

  2. You must invest the required NZD $$ million for a period of time under one of the two available immigrant investor programs. The investment is government-guaranteed and will be repaid in full at the end of the investment period.

  3. You and your spouse must have legally obtained personal net worth of a minimum of the required NZD $$ million.

  4. You will also be assessed on age, language, education, experience, and time spent in NZ on a points-based system.

  5. Your entire family must complete and pass New Zealand's medical and security evaluations.
